Ultrathin porous silicon membranes provide a novel platform for label free detection and identification of biologicalsamples using SERS. A 15 nm thin gold metal film was deposited on top of a 30 nm thick porous silicon membrane toform a thin porous metallic film. 3D FDTD simulations show EM field enhancement inside the holes together withincreased scattering and extinction cross sections, making this structure a novel SERS substrate.
