This work deals with the characterization of unsaturated hydraulic and solute transport properties of soils in small-scale laboratory column experiments. A Bayesian approach of parameter estimation is applied and the unknown parameters are estimated with a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) Method, through the implementation of the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. The sensitivity coefficients are examined in order to determine the most meaningful measurements for the identification of the unknown parameters. Results obtained with simulated measurements reveals the robustness of the proposed approach.
