The aim of this study was three - fold: Firstly, the level of job satisfaction and skills development were established. Secondly, the relationship between skills development and job satisfaction was investigated. Thirdly, the employee's perceptions regarding skills development were established. The resulting statistical findings indicated that the level of job satisfaction was very low among the NMBM laboratory employees. It was also established that the employees were having positive perceptions regarding the impact skills development can have on the job satisfaction items. Correlations between skills development and job satisfaction items indicated a negative relationship between the two. When asked employees supplied a list of items they believed where responsible for their job satisfaction, and from these results the researcher concludes that job satisfaction is indeed a multifaceted parameter. Furthermore the study has revealed that upon development employees develop other needs and should this needs not be fulfilled employees satisfaction levels are negatively affected. The researcher is therefore satisfied that the employees behaved according to available literature and the study explored theory as expected from a case study designed in this fashion. The study generated a set of recommendation that could assist this organization with employee attitudes. Future research should therefore investigate the impact of the recommendations on the level of job satisfaction among employees and resulting improvements in commitment and performance.
