INTERJUDGE RELIABILITY AND RATINGS VARIABILITY IN MUSIC PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

Standardization of music performance assessment improves the objectivity of the evaluative process in music performance. By calculating the interjudge reliability and by analyzing the adjudicators' performance ratings variability, we have discovered a significant impact of performance presentation format (audio versus audiovisual) and of marking schemes (global versus segmented) over the standardization level. Results have shown that segmented marking assessments of audiovisual music performance determine a higher consensus between adjudicators and reduce ratings variability.
