Comprehensive Performance Test Results for the Explosive Waste Incinerator after Completing the Department of the Army Modernization(Abstract)

Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK) has recently completed an upgrade of the Explosive Waste Incinerator (EWI) at the Lake City Ammunition Division as part of a Department of the Army funded modernization for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. The EWI is designed to incinerate configured munitions, munition components and bulk (raw) explosives. The EWI system upgrade was previously described in a paper presented in 2008. This paper describes the Comprehensive Performance Test strategy and results from the successful testing conducted in August 2008. This test incorporated using data-in-lieu for Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DRE).
