Asset turn-in Lean Six Sigma project for White Sands Test Center, Department of the Army.

The White Sands Test Center, located on White Sands Missile Range in Southern New Mexico, conducts numerous missions in support of the Army and other Department of Defense customers. Performing these missions requires an enormous amount of non-expendable equipment that has to be accounted for through a hand receipt process. Over the years, much of this equipment had become obsolete or unserviceable but had not been turned in for proper supply management. Consequently, the amount of equipment on hand was not effectively documented or tracked.;This project used the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) process to improve asset accountability. The process of turning in excess equipment was evaluated. The project included personnel from the White Sands Test Center and the Directorate of Logistics. The project increased the number of turn-in items by 90% and the Sigma Quality Level (SQL) of the process was increased from 1.5 to 1.773.
