This paper deals with the long-term modelling of high sea waves and presents the solution for the return period of sea storms during which an arbitrary chosen number of waves exceed fixed levels. Basis for the solution is the hypothesis that the temporal sequence of the significant wave height at a fixed location may be modelled as a succession of Equivalent Triangular Storms. This model has the advantage to keep the distribution of both the significant wave heights and the crest-to-trough wave heights during a sea storms allowing, on the other hand, great simplification on the mathematical treatment.
