COLLAPSE RESISTANT EXTRUSIONS AND FURTHER BENEFITS WITH NEUBURG SILICEOUS EARTH IN PEROXIDE CURED HIGH CONSISTENCY SILICONE RUBBER

Neuburg Siliceous Earth has long been used as a common filler in traditional elastomers - except silicone rubber. Therefore, a new special product Aktisil Q for silicone elastomers was launched in 2009. The present study compares different loadings up to 100 phr Aktisil Q in a 40 Shore A base compound with no further filler as well as flux calcined diatomaceous earth and a silane treated quartz flour added. The results confirm favourable curing properties, low compression set even without post-cure and improved oil resistance as well as excellent extrusion properties along with high collapse resistance and reduced surface stickiness of the extrusions. In addition, blooming of peroxide cure by-products will be minimized or even totally prevented.
