Traditional anti-cancer therapies have limited effects, therefore the citotoxic action exerted by drugs on colorectal tumors might be added by natural compounds and the signalling mechanisms could be influenced. Phosphorylation/dephosphorylation reactions represent the main mechanisms by which the proteins involved in signal transduction modify their activities. The present work focused on the study of signal transduction processes evaluating phosphorylation status of AMPK-alpha, TSC2, mTOR and S6K1 associated to colon adenocarcinoma cell lines (Colo201, LoVo) induced by cytotoxic drugs (5-fluorouracyl) in the presence or absence of natural compounds (quercetin and curcumin), by using SDS-PAGE/Western blotting and the chemiluminescence method.
