Clinical responses to Sublingual Immunotherapy in Allergic Diseases tnd Asthma

During the past 15 years sublingual immunotherapy has become more widely recognised as an important effective treatment option for asthmatic and rhinitic patients in whom the main trigger of the ongoing inflammation in their disease process has been inhalant allergens. The importance of sublingual immunotherapy has been highlighted by the World Allergy Organization convincing a Global Summit (in January 2009) on the Practice of sublingual immunotherapy for the formulation of Global Guidelines for doctors. Acceptance of this modality of treatment has been reinforced by positive Cochrane Reviews on its efficacy in rhinitis1, several reviews confirming efficacy in adults and children2.
