摘要

Demand for energy in the developing regions, particularly in Asia has been following an upward trend. Predictions of the International Energy Agency (IEA) found that in 2030 world demand would increase by 66 per cent compared to demand in 2000. Figure 4.1 shows that Asia's contribution to the world's energy demand will increase from 20 per cent in 2000 to 27 per cent in 2030. On the other hand, demand from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries is expected to decline from 59 per cent in 2000 to 47 per cent in 2030. It seems that over the next decades energy use will continue to grow inexorably, fossil fuels will continue to dominate the energy mix and developing countries will fast approach OECD countries as the largest consumer of commercial energy.
