We now have: 1)A robust model of helicopter stability on moving decks, 2)A clear approach to deck motions prediction 3)A rational method for dealing with input data and uncertainties 4)A consistent approach that separates landing and on-deck stability. We have carried out numerous studies on vessel motions, rotor aerodynamics and overall model validation. There remain some conservatisms in our limits calculations - work is on-going to remove these. Combined with new limits for landing, and a much greater appreciation of the problem, improvements in helideck safety will be achieved. We need more data and discussion with manufacturers, particularly with respect to new aircraft types, for future implementation.
