Protection of the SOFC Current Collectors by Spinel Layers Deposited by Electrostatic Spray Technique

The objective of the present work is development of the original electrostatic spray pyrolysis technique for deposition of the Mn,Co spinel type coating on the cathode contact side of a ferritic interconnect. The commercial ferritic Crofer22APU steel supplied by Thyssen Krupp and commercial ferritic 08X18T1 steel Chelybinsk, Russia were investigated. The electrical conductivity of the five-layer system {ferritic steel}/ {Mn,Co spinel type coating}/ {LA_(0.8)Sr_(0.2)MnO3 (LSM)}/ {Mn,Co spinel type coating}/{ferritic steel} was studied by DC five-point contact method for 1500 hours in air at 850°C under a current density of 0.5A/cm~2. Both stainless steel with Mn,Co spinel type coating and LSM disc were analyzed after testing. The microstructure and composition of the oxide scales and surfaces formed were investigated using high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, X-ray analyses and time of -flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF SIMS).^
