Study on Magnetic-gravity combination separation and acid leaching of a high phosphorus fine hematite

Process mineralogy of an Inner Mongolia iron ore was investigated. The results indicated that the iron ores mainly include hematite, a few magnetite and limonite, and the gangues mainly are quartz, secondly Montmorillonite, Spessartite and so on. The dissemination size of primary valuable minerals was fine and uneven distributed. In this work, a method was developed to solve the problem of low recovery of magnetic-gravity separation combined process. An iron concentrate with 61.18% Fe grade and 65.84% recovery could be obtained by low-intensity magnetic separation-High-intensity separation-screening classification-gravity separation combined process. However, the content of phosphorus was highly to 0.510%. The iron concentrate was leached by acid to remove the phosphorus, the content of phosphorus of final iron concentrate was decreased to 0.117%. The iron grade of leached concentrate was increased to 62.93% and total iron recovery of that was reached 64.16%.
