An experimental research on the impaction of ferrum based nano-particles on an air-source heat pump water heater (ASHPWH), which uses R425a / mineral oil VG22 / as working fluid, was presented in this paper. Some surfactants, such as S-80 and PK, were used as dispersants to make the ferrum based nano-particles dispersed well in the oil. The method how to disperse the NiFe2O4 nano-particles into the mineral refrigeration oil was presented in detail. Performances of the ASHPWH system, such as energy consumption, heating capacity, the discharge pressure, the discharge temperature and so on, were tested. The mixtures of R22 / mineral oil, R22 / mineral oil VG22/ NiFe2O4 nano-particles, R425a / mineral oil VG22/ NiFe2O4 nano-particles were employed by the ASHPWH system as working fluid in turn. The results showed that the ASHPWH using R425a / mineral oil VG22/ NiFe2O4 nano-particles as working fluid can work normally with slightly better performance than of using R22/mineral-oil systems.
