摘要

Pharmaceutically active compounds have recently become of great aquatic environmental concern due to their biological activity. Pharmaceuticals used for human medical care are not entirely utilized in the human body and they are excreted to wastewater treatment plants after therapeutic use. As some of them are not removed completely in these treatment plants, they constitute a potential risk in waters used as drinking water sources. Although much research has been conducted in the past about the occurrence, fate and removal of pharmaceuticals in waters, there is still a lack of knowledge about their influence and treatability, especially if the effluent containing these chemicals is used for potable water production.
