Molecular Exchange between Intra- and Extracellular Compartments in a Cell Suspension

In this work we present a PFG-SE technique to obtain the a characteristic time for molecular exchange betweendomains with slow diffusion and domains with fast diffusion. The method has been demonstrated by measuring the change ofexchange time with temperature for a sedimented yeast cell suspension. Compared to previous methods the new protocol ismore sensitive to exchange and as few as 40 data points are needed. The experimental time needed is thus a couple of minutes.
