This patent relates to the use of phospholipases, e.g.: sPLA2, as the active agent in the preparation of pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic compositions for the treatment of pathogenias mediated by micro-organisms, having a cover or membrane comprising phospholipids, particularly glycerophospholipids. In particular, it relates to the use of sPLA2 from the venom of Crotalus durissus terrificus as a biocide component for the preparation of compositions for the treatment of viral infections, in particular the conditions of bacterial and parasitic acquired immunodeficiency HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections, such as parasitic conditions mediated by parasites from the plasmodium and leishmania species.
