DISCO: Development and Integration of Speech technology into Coursewarefor language learning

Recent research has shown that a properly designed ASR-based CALL system (Dutch-CAPT) was capable of detectingpronunciation errors and of providing comprehensiblefeedback on pronunciation. Since pronunciation is not theonly skill required for speaking a second language, weexplored the possibility of extending the Dutch-CAPTapproach to other aspects of speaking proficiency likemorphology and syntax. In this paper we explain how anumber of errors in morphology and syntax that are commonin spoken Dutch L2 could be addressed in an ASR-basedCALL system. Finally, we present our new project in whichcorrective feedback will be provided on all three aspects ofspoken proficiency: pronunciation, morphology and syntax.
