In December 2010 Doosan Power Systems and Vattenfall Europe Technology Research GmbH agreed to test OxyCoal technology at Vattenfall's Oxyfuel Pilot Plant (OxPP) located at Schwarze Pumpe, Germany. Doosan Power Systems have designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned a 30MWth OxyCoal burner, firing pre-dried lignite, in Vattenfall's OxPP. A six month test programme is currently being undertaken. This paper will present the test results obtained to date. Doosan Power Systems have been actively developing OxyCoal technology, over a period of 10 years or more. Data from extensive combustion testing at 40MWth on a burner test facility, the Clean Combustion Test Facility (CCTF) located at Renfrew, Scotland, will also be discussed, as well as the implications for a full-scale oxyfuel demonstration plant.
