Delayed Ettringite Formation (DEF) is a reaction likely to induce damage in concrete structures due to swelling processes. This paper presents the details of an experimental programme which aims to gather an extensive database concerning the mechanical effects related to this chemical reaction, using large scale lab specimens. This two year programme is intended to investigate the coupling mechanisms between expansion, moisture conditions and mechanical restraints with the aim to validate numerical tools needed to assess the damaged structures. The most innovative techniques used to provide reliable measurements and controlled boundary conditions are also presented.
