The brain is able to generate a variety of electrical activities that relate to differentbehaviors, and during these cortical activities cortical neurons are constantlybombarded with synaptic inputs that arise from other cortical cells. An individualcortical pyramidal neuron receives thousands of synaptic inputs, the majority ofwhich come from its neighboring excitatory neurons and each cortical neuroninnervates a large group of other neurons, typically within a local cortical area, byforming a few synapses with each of them. Therefore a local cortical network isbuilt as a combination of convergent and divergent connectivity [1-3].
