The complexity issues related to modern software systems continue to grow and insights into key factors influencing complexity must be better understood. This paper indicates how complexity factors are investigated and understood with two graduate level software engineering courses. The effort includes hands on development and tool use in addition to review of extensive number of real world examples and a major project. The utilization of metrics is addressed and two major papers in the complexity area are analyzed.
