Liferaft's resistance in calm water increased in a non-linear fashion with increasing tow speed. At higher tow speeds the forward end of the rafts tended to submerge, causing water to splash onto the canopy and through the entrance. There was a good agreement between model and full scale data in calm water tows. These results also compare well to manufacturer's supplied data for the rafts. At low speeds, full scale trial tow force resistance correlated with predicted model scale values - however at higher speeds, noticeable differences were seen. These results comprise only a small fraction of the three year research program results.
