Objective of this work is to investigate possibilities of electricity supply using wind and solar power for an average Croatian island household. Another objective was to compare optimized autonomous system costs with the cost of conventional electrical grid connection. Distance from the available grid can greatly influence the connection price for grid connected systems. Also, cable connection is more expensive than overland lines. For the autonomous system supply small wind turbine has been used together with photovoltaic to compensate lacks of wind energy and night gaps when the Sun is not available. Autonomous systems are usually settled on remote and isolated sites, but not exclusively, they can be used also to decrease seasonal overload and decrease energy dependence.
