Over the years, the Niger delta has become subject to devastating effects of deforestation resulting from indiscriminate logging of trees, intensified agricultural activities and over exploitation of forest resources resulting from a rapidly increasing population and increased human activity. The government has undertaken different studies on land use change on a national level but emphasis hasnt been given to monitoring forest canopy degradation and evaluating the present state of deforestation in the delta.
