(1293)CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT IN THERMODYNAMICS THROUGHAUTOMATICALLY GENERATED PUPIL-CUSTOMIZED EXERCISES

The work described here is dedicated to the preparation, development, implementation and integrationof a set of question-programs that generates pupil-customized activities in real time on AulaWeb, aVirtual Learning Environment widely used in the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers of theTechnical University of Madrid (ETSII-UPM). This effort has been done in order to go into an effectivecontinuous assessment method in the teaching of Thermodynamics. Exercises are automaticallyprepared each time that the students enter the application, leading to different kinds of questions(simple-choice, multiple-choice, integer number, real number) which are also different for every run ofthe application. The difficulty of the questions is similar to that of the final examination’s exercises andthe student gets an instantaneous correction, calculated and given by the application at the moment.Therefore, these exercises can be integrated in the students daily learning, allowing them to know thereal degree of understanding of the concepts discussed in classes in comparison with the final examdemands. Furthermore, the teacher becomes free of the correction of numerous exercises, causing asaving of time that can be spent in other more active educational activities, such as tutorship, classpreparation, etc.
