摘要

A professional development program has been implemented for the last six years targeting elementaryand middle school mathematics teachers from public and private schools of the western part of PuertoRico. It is an intensive, content knowledge based program. A summer institute, residential academiesand Saturday academies totaling 160 hours per year are offered to participant teachers. In addition,coaching and classroom visits by University professors constitute a strong follow-up component of theproject. Teachers receive educational materials to be used with their students and colleagues.Evaluation is an integral part of the program. All the program activities are evaluated, as well as theimpact and performance of participating teachers and their students.
