NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN LEARNING DRAWING--A REFLEXIVE EXPLORATION THROUGH PRACTICE

Authors such as Rudolf Amheim, Ernst Gombrich, Richard L. Gregory have devoted much of their research to the phenomenon of vision and perception of things. During practical exercise of the perceptual process in a studio-based drawing context, we found that most of the students ran into the same general difficulties: difficulty in building and structuring the shape and volume from observation of the "whole", difficulty in A^ing the atmosphere of the scene and "translating" what was being observed into an ordered tone scale, as well as other aspects of visual perception and representation. In the course of first year classes in the Fine Arts Faculty of Granada University, we have suggested the use of photography and graphics software as supplementary tools to help make "more visible", as far as this is possible, some of these processes in order to help the students to achieve a better understanding of the perceptive principles. The versatility of graphics software that allow the use of different layers in photographic work, the combined perception of different shots of images, the possibility of obtaining monochromatic images with certain values and adapted to specific requirements, allow us to give a more customized and accurate response to the requirements that most often arise in the classroom. From an academic approach, the use of New Technologies in Drawing might seem controversial, but our experience proves that the students' understanding of the most difficult concepts/aspects is greatly improved by the use of these technologies because they help them visualize most of the perceptive processes.
