CHANGES IN THE TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT METHODS USED WITH A GROUP OF STUDENTS WITH LEARNING PROBLEMS IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

In 2007 we carried out the project entitled Changes in the teaching and assessment methods used with a group of students with learning problems in Analytical Chemistry. The work consisted in preparing materials for students who showed particular problems in learning the theory or solving the problems they were faced with in Analytical Chemistry classes. The selection of these students was performed by examining University registration data. The total number of students registered for the subject was 78, from which we selected 15 students who had failed the subject on several times (two of them had sat for their exams five times; two others, four times; and the remaining eleven, three times). An e-mail was sent to the fifteen students with information about the project, which involved personalized study, supervision and assessment, but only 4 agreed to take part. Finally, all the students who had participated in the project successfully completed the subject: two of them obtained grade A, and the other two, grade B.
