O3-BAC process was studied for the advanced treatment of source water in Beijing, The experimental results show that this"process was effective in reducing the typical odor causing compounds such as 2-MIB and geosmin (GSM) to be lower than odor threshold Among the contribution of the total removal, ozonation amounted to 50% or so, activated carbon adsorption about 30% and biodegradation about 20%, Moreover, one strain capable of biodegradifg 2-MIB was isolated from the surface of activated carbon. Being sequenced on 16S rRNA, the strain was identified as Pseudomonas spp.
