This contribution reports on luminescence properties of divalent ytterbium α-SiAlON were synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis reaction. α-SiAlON is a good host material for yellow phosphors, combines with blue LED light that it stimulates in the phosphor to generate a whitish light. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement, absorption spectrum, and photoluminescence spectrum of the powder phosphors were presented. Evidence shows that phosphors sintered at 1000°C not only have higher absorb intensity in the NUV spectral region (280nm~320nm) and blue region (380nm~480nm) but also possess the higher PL intensity of evident yellow-green emission at 550nm.
