Over the past decade, polymer supported luminescence oxygen sensors are increasingly being used for different applications ranging from the measurement of pressure distribution of air on wing of an aircraft using pressure sensitive paint to the study of oxygen diffusion properties in polymers These technologies are developed based on the concept that the luminescence intensity of some luminophores quenches in the presence of oxygen. In the present work main objective is to measure diffusion properties of oxygen in polymers. A number of cases are reported in the literature where luminescence quenching by oxygen is used for measuring diffusion coefficients of the oxygen in polymers. In most of the cases, the luminophore was directly dispersed in the polymer and average oxygen concentration change in polymer was monitored by studying the average intensity change or life time change of luminophore using a spectrofluorometer. Our research work focused on the measurement of permeability and diffusivity of oxygen in polymers using luminescence sensor with fluorescence microscope. Our technique is an improvement over past reported methods and successfully applied for different polymers.
