Carbon from either coke/coal or any other carbon bearing material (coal tar) can be combusted in the tuyere and race way zone of Blast Furnace to form hot reducing gases. These gases are used to reduce iron oxides, preheat burden materials and produce molten hot metal and slag. Therefore pulverized coal (PC) and coal tar which are waste materials and are otherwise unsuitable for metallurgical purpose and cheaper can be injected into the blow pipes of a Blast Furnace to decrease coke requirement still maintaining the thermo chemistry of the furnaces.
