The so called coexistence debate on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's) and conventional and organic agriculture focuses on arbitrary details like threshold levels and meters of distances. It forces those who do NOT want to accept GMO's, into a debate which is not theirs. There tends to be not enough room to explain the values of Organic Agriculture, the very ethical basis organic farmers wish to base their work on; values that can be explained to and shared with consumers and citizens. The debate on coexistence draws the attention away from a necessary debate that European citizens should have on 'what kind of agriculture do we want?'
