Cryotherapy, the application of extreme cold to destroy tissue, is a safe, well-established FDA-cleared technology that has been successfully applied for selective ablation and treatment of various malignant and benign conditions, such as prostate and renal cancer, liver tumors, bone tumors, soft tissue tumors, fibroadenoma of breast, as well as for treatment of cardiac arrhythmia and cryoanalgesia.Cryomyolysis, or cryoablation of uterine fibroids, is a treatment whereby fibroids are frozen in order to halt their growth and reduce their volume, resulting in symptom relief. Cryomyolysis has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic fibroids and can be performed transvaginally or transabdominally with either laparoscopic assistance or under imaging guidance (Ultrasound or MRI).
