COMPARISON OF GOMOS LEVEL2 PRODUCTS FOR MEASUREMENTS IN CLOSE COINCIDENCE

By using the geometry specific features of GOMOS measurements, it has been possible to identify a substantial number of measurements made in close coincidence since the launch of ENVISAT. Because they are measured in close spatial and time coincidence, the impact of the natural variability on the possible differences between the vertical profiles is small. We present results of the comparison of the vertical profiles of several species and of High Resolution Temperature Profiles (HRTP) retrieved from those pairs of occultations. For coincident measurements from two different stars, we discuss the possible impact of the star characteristics (brightness and spectral type) on the retrieval quality. Our observations are consistent with the usual recommendations on the star selection criteria for GOMOS products. The comparison of such products also illustrates the robustness of the algorithm. Basing on a preliminary statistical analysis of series of occultations from the same star couples, we make comments on the validity of error estimates.
