The method involves scanning the wave packet to multiple point of time and producing a measurement value for each point of time. A sum of product is computed, where the product is computed for a determined point of time as a product from a value of a comparison function and the measurement value by a microprocessor (9). The temporal position of the wave packet is computed from the computed sum of product.
