FEV's new 7H-AMT hybrid transmission will be presented in this paper. This transmission is based upon a conventional automated manual transmission, but here an integrated electric motor is used to compensate the torque gap during the shifts. In addition to that, the electric motor can be used for pure electric driving, boosting and recuperating. Therefore this transmission concept combines the functionality of a full hybrid transmission with the low cost and mature technology of a manual transmission. After a brief overview over the transmission, the most important functional aspects of the control unit are discussed with focus on the control of the different subsystems like synchronizer units, clutch, hydraulic actuation and electric motor. By showing measured data and characteristic values for the shift quality the shiftability with this transmission in a first prototype vehicle will be discussed. Additionally the achieved improvement of fuel efficiency with this transmission will be outlined and discussed.
