The future of the automobile is being shaped to a considerable extent by plastics. The reasons for the continuously increasing use of plastics are to be found in particular in the wide variety of possibilities they offer for functional integration and their potential for weight saving in comparison with metallic materials. This paper describes innovative plastic solutions aimed at meeting the requirements of the modern automobile and also provides an overview of current possible solutions and developments relating to future mobility.
