The pollen beetle (Meligethes aenus) is an important pest of spring oilseed rape (Brassiaca napus var. oleifera). Both adults and larvae feed on the pollen of oilseed rape, which provides a variety of essential nutrients, including protein, starch, streoids, lipids, vitamins and minerals (Roulson & Cane, 2000). However, the criteria used by pollen beetles in host-quality assessment have been little studied. Many studies focus on the effects of nutrients on growth of oilseed rape, seed yield and oil content in seeds (Fismes et al., 2000). The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different foliar fertilizers on host-plant selection by pollen beetles.
