Patterned media is a promising candidate for a high-density magnetic recording media[PR1]. In this scheme, a magnetic thin film is cut into an array of tiny dots, each having a size of one bit (or one reversal unit). Even for 1Tbpsi, the dot is still sufficiently large to prevent thermal fluctuation. Though patterned media had already reported in the 1990s [1,2], it has been attracting greater interest recently.
