Antiferromagnetic nanoparticles (AFN) have recently received much attention due to their special properties. It was found PtMn[1], NiO[2], and CoO[3] nanoparticles show ferromagnetic (FM) behavior, while their bulk ones display antiferromagntic (AFM) properties. The appearance of hysteresis phenomenon and net magnetic moment were associated to the uncompensated surface spins originating from the finite size effect. The studies on size-related properties of AFN are essential for understanding this phenomenon.
