There has been an extensive study of phonon focusing [1] in anisotropic elastic crystals. In these systems energy input at a particular point can be carried away in highly focused beams which travel in particular directions with respect to the crystal. This creates the question whether there are other types of modes which might exhibit focusing effects. An important property for a material to exhibit focusing is anisotropy, so that the group and phase velocities point in different directions. Since magnetic materials have an inherent anisotropy, we study the focusing behavior of magneto-static waves in ferromagnetic thin films.
