Keloids are benign fibrous growths with characteristic clinical features, whose underlying pathogenic mechanisms are not fully understood. Newer treatment modalities including laser therapy are examined more recently. Materials and Methods: We selected 13 patients and randomly allocated them in two groups, the first of which (n(velence)8) took LLLT after CO_(2) laser excisional surgery with GaAs pulsed infrared and continuous red light laser. The second group (n(velence)5) took only excision of the lesion and followed thereafter. Hamilton and Vancouver Scar Scales measured initially and 8 weeks of follow-up accomplished for each patient using these scores. Results: After 8 weeks of follow-up Hamilton score and Vancouver Score reduction was significantly higher in case group (p(velence) 0.027, p<0.0001, respectively, Fischer's Exact test). Discussion: Our work shows that application of low power laser therapy with GaAs laser along with excisional surgery of the lesion using CO_(2) laser could be more effective than low-level laser therapy of the lesions alone.
