Strontium Tetraborate Glasses Doped with Transition Metal Ions: EPR and Optical Absorption Study

Strontium tetraborate, SrB_4O_7, is promising as an active laser material. Several researchers have studied it in crystals and glasses forms and it contains lanthanide ions [1-3]. By varying the chemical composition of the glass, the local environment of the transition metal (TM) ion incorporated into the vitreous network can be changed, leading to local ligand field inhomogeneities.
