Pelletizmg With Different Types of Iron Ore Fines

Pelletizing process is sensitive to the type of iron ore used as it is one of the prime raw material required for making pellets. Since inception, Tata Steel pellet plant has been using iron ore fines from its captive mines at Noamundi. Due to nonavailability of iron ore from Noamundi mines, other sources of iron ore fines were used for pelletizing. Based on their occurrences, iron ores differ in their characteristics and hence behave differently during pelletizing. Variation in the type of iron ore fines required tweaking of the process parameters in order to maintain production and quality. This paper highlights the effect of ore type on pelletizing process and explains the adjustments made in different units of pelletizing process such as grinding, green balling and induration.
