PURPOSE:To manufacture iron independently of shape and quality of iron ore and coal by spouting fine iron ore, fine coal, lime, etc. from a spouting device upon the surface of lump coke packed in a truncated cone shape and by burning them with air optionally mixed with steam and fed from tuyeres. CONSTITUTION:By suitably selecting height and diameter of barrels 11, 12, 13 the side-slope area of each coke truncated cone C can be made several-several tens times as large as the cross-sectional area of the furnace (the inner area of ring 31, 32 or 33). Accordingly, the flow rate of a flame flowing to flue hole 5 is decreased, and the flame is not accompanied by small droplets of molten slag and hot iron. Most of live coal produced in the vicinities of tuyeres 7 stays on rings 32, 33, so water-contg. materials are burned without drying, and the water induces water gas reaction together with incandescent coke to further raise the tuyere temp. Flue corridors are formed under rings 32, 33 and hot iron is manufactured using fine raw materials without causing environmental pollution. By blowing steam from upper tuyeres 7 of barrels 11, 12 together with air, tar-rich coal can be burned smokelessly.
