The project at Nucor Berkeley to "widen the mill" has enabled Nucor to move further into the market for agricultural and industrial machinery, heavy wall pipe and tube, and automotive and truck applications. The upgrade to the pickle line was one aspect of the total project. By focusing on the goals Nucor set out at the beginning to provide increased capability while reusing as much of the existing foundations, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment as possible for economy, SMS group has been able to supply robust fit-for-purpose equipment within the cost and schedule requirements of the project.
