PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a different thickness steel plate which enable various kind of different thickness steel plates to be inexpensively produced and also different thickness steel plates having plate thickness difference in a plate width direction to be produced.SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing a different thickness steel plate having plate thickness differences in the plate width direction is provided in which a plurality of small-diameter non-driven work rolls, a plurality of large-diameter driven work rolls and a plurality of units are installed in one housing. Each of the small-diameter non-driven work rolls has a roll profile which comes in contact with a metal strip partly in the width direction at one or two symmetrical positions in the plate width direction. Each of the large-diameter driven work rolls has a roll profile which comes in contact with the metal strip over the whole width in the width direction. Each of the units is comprised of back-up rolls supporting these work rolls.
